When I was in Nepal during the Summer, I enquired about Mission Paisa amongst my friends, most of their response was 'kasto jhurr movie'. Period.
Mission Paisa is a very straight forward movie with a interesting enough storyline which fails to capture the audience's interest . Amidst all the greed for money is friendship, relationship and cultural ties. The movie has style yet the substance is lacking. I question myself why the movie could not be based in Nepal itself rather than Hong Kong; seeing the HK panorama every few minutes does get repetitive after a while. The quality of the camera they have used is excellent, cinematography, choreography for the songs etc have been improved from the traditional Nepali silverscreen. The actors have done an alright job, you cannot kill them for their performance since the movie does not ride on an emotional factor besides theres already well known faces of Nepali TV/FILM industry such as Sunil Thapa, Nisha Adhikari and Nikhil Uprety. During the last few scenes when the gang are in Kathmandu, the film finally starts moving. It is in these scenes where we can see more of the great outdoors. The fighting scenes between 'Daisy' and 'Sush' is the best that the Nepalese movies has seen. It certainly beats Rekha Thapa's prancing around in Durga. The cinematography picks up greatly during the last scenes with an interesting end by introducing Asif Shah and Sudin Pokharel for their respective cameo's.
Overall the movie is a good step towards the right direction although there are flaws. However, one must realise that to produce 120 minutes of footage they have endlessly worked months to create this product to bring it to the mass.

Dr. Chakra Raj Pandey

Nepal truly needs more doctors like Dr. Pandey.
Working as a orthopedic surgeon at the Medicare Hospital in Kathmandu, Dr. Pandey is among the few doctors who refunds the fee if the patient passes away during the treatment.
''In principal, you've to pay the fee for the medical service recieved'' he says. ''However, I dont want to recieve the fee from bereaved family members''.
Not only this but he also treats for free if his patients have to have a second operation for the same problem. :)
Why cant more doctors be like this in Nepal instead of just being in a rush to get through as many patients and prescribe them with anything, not listening to patients attentively and seeing the profession as a business than a service.

Nepal Is Closed

Funny title dont you think? I certainly do. Nepal witnessed its 2nd day of strike from the Maoists today which is expected to last till tommorow. Meaning, no transport, shutdown of businesses, schools etc. Its a sad sight for a developing country.
When I was in Nepal, id jump when i found out there was a bandha day coming up. Simply, it meant NO SCHOOL. However, come to terms with it. For three days, all the cinemas, restaurants, hotels, shops, travel agents, musuems etc will see no customers/tourists/people (AND MANY MORE, these just popped in my head). This in turn affects the economy in such a big scale. Secondly, people still have to make ends meet and still go to their office. Thats why during a strike day the roads in Kathmandu is dotted with people. Heres some excerpts from few well known personalities in Nepal;
Bhusan Dahal (MD, Kantipur Television):-
I’m on the way to my office, taking a walk. Talking about Bandha, they should close down Nepal permanently. Why don’t they go for that? We can even deal with it. Public has gone through a lot. We don’t need politics and we don’t need anything, we can make our way through. What do I say about politics? As you know our politicians have more brains and they should utilize it more this way! You know what I mean? That’s all they can do.
Nima Rumba:-
It’s bandha since yesterday and I spent the whole day checking emails and completing the unfinished songs. I had to attend meetings, had to go for practice for upcoming shows, had to go to studio for recording…..couldn’t do it because of the bandha. Every political party promise to respect public and that has only been in words. It’s us who gets affected directly. Everyone knows this affects the economy of our country. Actually no one has the right to close down the country! ‘Bandha Garna Paidaina!!’
Alok Nembang:-
The editing of my cinema was going on. The meeting got cancelled and all my shootings have also been stopped because of this!
Jharana Bajracharya:-
I didn’t have much to do so am just chilling out at home, relaxing! ;-)
Surendra Man Singh ( Karma):-
Couldn’t open TNT (his restaurant in Thamel) today. All the business gets hamper. The first rule in our constitution should be no one can call a bandha!
WHY DO PEOPLE STILL SUPPORT THE MAOISTS?

Nepal Trip 2009
This is a short video of my trip in Nepal, its more like a music video if you get me but not really a music video. Ah Well, theres footages from Chitwan, my ancestral villages, Gorkha and Kathmandu itself. I couldnt get any time to fit in the video from The Last Resort and sadly since we had to much fun in Pokhara, I didnt take any videos. lol .
I REALLY HOPE that NEPAL TOURISM YEAR 2011 ends up in a high note however there are a lot to be done, including one of the MOST important factor being UPGRADING THE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. They need a better management since hygiene in the airport is poor and not up to international standards, with growing number of airlines adding Kathmandu to their destination the airport cannot simply handle any more traffic unless they make an additional hangar. A second runway maybe a good option for the future. Hopefully, the International Airport in Pokhara kicks off their construction soon.
lots of HOPE'S there , *_*

Cabinet Meeting on Everest

Im guessing most of you have heard about the Cabinet Meeting near the Everest Base Camp in Kalapatthar Plateau right? Well it took place on 4th of December, the meeting lasted 20 Minutes. Out of the 27 Cabinet Ministers, 24 were present.
The ministers apparently hired several helicopters and had the whole sight secured. This is expected to have cost Nrs 6 Million. The meeting was held to focus on the melting of glaciers around the Himalayas and also to introduce new actions on climate change. PM Nepal has left for Copenhagen early this morning to attend the UNITED NATIONS CLIMATE SUMMIT.
Now, If i was to do this then why not shove all of the ministers on a flight to Lukla on YETI AIRLINES.

Shubu Thapa - Eka Desh Ko
I uploaded the video of Shubu Thapa's debut single Eka Desh Ko on youtube earlier today. My reaction from the video was, wow shes different. Then i thought again, WOW Shes different FOR NEPAL. Yes, she seems very Avril Inspired however we can argue that her fashion is more inspired from the clothing line EMILY something other than Avril. We cant exactly say her music is FULLY AVRIL LAVIGNE since its got different variations to it. BUT PLEASE, think, most Nepalese singers have been inspired from something or the other. Even English singers, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears strived to be like Madonna while Chris Brown and NeYo imitate Michael Jacksons style. Most of the times when a nepali artist imitated someone else, the result was poor, unprofessional and tacky however all three of those cannot be said for Shubu Thapa and the video.
The video is a breath of fresh air compared to other Nepali videos. Why arent we comparing this video to other Nepali videos instead of ranting about English Videos. ? . The song may not be everyones cup of tea but we must understand that its aimed at the young pre-teeny bopper audience. Dont get me wrong, I like the song - at first I was unsure but after listening to it for 3 times, it was catchy. Thats the aim of most songs. What the Nepali people in general need to learn is ( I MYSELF INCLUDED), let us embrace talent rather then refuse them. Also be compassionate with what you say, we might criticise it and say thats the shittest thing ever but for someone theyve spent more then a year producing and working towards the outcome.
UPDATE: The video has been removed from my account due to Copyright Infringement Issues from the Phoenix Studios Nepal. Fair Enough. Although they could've just disabled one of their codes to make it not downloadable. Oh Well, next time Il give it two-thoughts before promoting/supporting any new artist.

Govinda In Kathmandu

Govinda was spotted on Wednesday at some studio in the Kathmandu Valley. He's on a private visit with his mother-in-law and was seen flanked by wife Sunita. Director; Dipendra K.Khanal decided to use this op to invite GOVINDA for the audio release of his upcoming movie 'RAJNITI' which marks the return of MANISHA KOIRALA after a hiatus in the Nepali Silverscreen, also stars RAJESH HAMAL, BIRAJ BHATTA and some others.
So was there a real point to Govinda attending this event apart from the aim to capture some headlines; No.
*Manisha Koirala was not at the event due to filming commitments in India.
Namrata Shrestha To Host KTV Award Show??
Discussions are apparently under way to decide who will be hosting this years KTV Film Award which is set to take place on Paush 1. The directors of the event are possibly juggling the idea to give Namrata the opportunity to host this show, if this does go ahead then this will sorta be like her mini-comeback. Hopefully she proves all her detractors wrong and shines at the event. Click here to read more.
The Sano Sansar actress has also got a new break from director Prachanda Shrestha; she is to essay a role of a girl recovering from drug abuse. Im sure that'll be a more challenging role than Sano Sansar or Mero Euta Saathi Cha.
